Welcoming Andrew Wilson as Chair, and thanking Ian Ward-Ambler

We’ve got an important Board update to share with our community.

After a decade of service, and stewardship, Ian Ward-Ambler,  is stepping down as Chair of The Man Cave Board. And as we thank Ian for everything he’s helped build, we’re excited to welcome Andrew Wilson as our new Chair.

This is one of those moments that’s both reflective and forward-looking, a chance to acknowledge what’s been, and to get ready for what’s next.

Thank you, Ian

Ian joined The Man Cave in the early days and has been part of the journey as we grew from a big idea into a national organisation. As he puts it:

“From a thought in a café to more than 100,000 boys reached through our programs, it has been a privilege to be part of The Man Cave journey over the past decade.”

Over those ten years, Ian has seen the heart of this work up close. The stories, the shifts, the evidence, and the moments that remind you why it matters:

“In that time, I’ve witnessed remarkable stories, compelling evidence, and countless moments where boys, young men, families, and entire communities have been transformed by our work.”

If you’ve spent any time around The Cave, you’ll know we don’t believe impact happens because of slick ideas or fancy words. It happens because of people showing up, doing the work, and backing boys to grow. That’s what Ian says has stood out most:

“What has always stood out to me is our people. Their passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the young men we serve have shaped programs that continue to deepen in both quality and impact.”

Ian has been a strong supporter of the team, our facilitators, and the communities we partner with including schools, educators, and families across Australia. And in classic Ian fashion, he’s handing over the baton  with both gratitude and humility:

“Our culture code reminds us to ‘leave it better than you found it.’ I hope I’ve done that while knowing the bar was set pretty low when I arrived.”

Ian will remain on our board throughout the remainder of the financial year.

Ian, we’re deeply grateful. Thank you for your care, your guidance, and your belief in what The Man Cave can be.

Welcoming Andrew Wilson

We’re genuinely stoked to welcome Andrew Wilson as our new Chair. Andrew has been on our board for 2 years and is a well known and trusted advisor amongst The Cave community.

Andrew steps into the role at a meaningful time for The Man Cave, with the transition from our Co-Founder Hunter Johnston, over to our new CEO Ben Vasiliou who has almost clocked over a year with The Man Cave.

Andrew brings a strong background in youth mental health (including several years on the Board and as Chair of ReachOut), and a values-led approach that fits naturally with The Cave. In his words:

“I’m genuinely stoked and honoured to be stepping in as Chair of The Man Cave… following in the footsteps of Ian  is equal parts intimidating and inspiring.”

What gives Andrew confidence is the mission — and the way we go about it:

“The Man Cave’s approach of meeting boys where they’re at, talking with them not at them… just feels right.”

Andrew is also a very proud Dad of three — Thomas (13), Millie (10) and Bella (6) — and he’s

clear this role matters on a personal level too:

“I want them growing up in a world where boys are supported to be emotionally courageous, grounded and connected.”

And yes, he lives in Sydney, but he’s already taking the Melbourne banter in stride:

“I do live in Sydney but I’ve come to accept that Melbourne isn’t that much worse… and I am always happy to travel down to visit.”

Looking ahead

To Ian: thank you for a decade of leadership and for leaving The Cave better than you found it.

To Andrew: welcome to your new role, we’re glad you’re here, and we’re looking forward to the chapter ahead.

And to every school, educator, parent, supporter and community member who’s been part of this work: thank you for backing boys, and for backing a future where healthy masculinity isn’t an idea. It’s something we build together.

Regards,

Angela Gaylard

Chief Operating Officer & Company Secretary (The Man Cave Global).
